The Ultimate Sporting Chalenge

A triathlon is made from three different sports; swimming, cycling and running. During a race they are run back-to-back, and the winner is either the first person to finish (if you start at the same time) or the person with the shortest time.

The triathlon is started in the water. We swim in most things, from pools to lakes. After swimming the required lengths, hop out of the water and run through transition. Here is were we keep trainers, and any other clothes we need to wear during the race. This is often called T1.

Then you go to your bike, which is often in a different place to prevent congestion. This second place is called T2. You can usually put your helmet in either transition area, just so long as you put it on and fasten it before you touch your bike. Then, once you have left T2, hop on your bike and cycle as far as you need to. Adults do it on concrete, so it is mostly a route. However as minors we have to do it on grass for protection. This means it tends to be laps around a playing field. The good thing is the distances are shorted on grass than on concrete.

Now you need to bring your bike back into T2. be careful to only unbuckle your helmet once you are completely off of your bike, and don't ride your bike in transition. It is important to rack your bike(if there are racks) or give it to a marshal, depending on what the race rules dictate. If you don't do as the rules say, you will probably incur a time penalty or possibly disqualification.

After putting your bike away correctly, the only task remaing is the run. There is always a friendly atmosphere at competitions, and everyone cheers everyone else on. Especially as you pass the finish line people tend to cheer for you. If you are very lucky it might be announced on speaker phone!

It is a sport that requires stamina, determination and commitment, and it's not always easy. The important thing is to do your best, and achieve your personal goals. Medals and trophies are always fun too.
